Principal's Message
I am very proud to represent the Sequoia Middle School staff, students and community. Sequoia has a long and rich history of educating students that become leaders at our school, in the South-East community and in Fresno at large. We are proud of the amazing things that happen on a daily basis to prepare students for high school and adult success. We have recently been honored as a California School to Watch and a United States National Forum Schools to Watch. We are proud to be recognized along with other schools for achieving high results despite significant challenges. We are also proud to have been named a Fresno State Bonner Award winner 4 times in the past 10 years signifying our efforts as a school that helps students develop strong and positive character. We are proud of the school environment that we have worked to develop, and we know that your child can thrive here.
Our goal at Sequoia is to prepare your child to be an outstanding high school and someday college student. After two years at Sequoia your child will have the necessary knowledge, skills and work ethic to be successful in high school and beyond.
We have several programs that will help you to be a successful in middle school. They include:
- Honors/GATE program This program will give you opportunity to earn high school credits while still in middle school. Courses include Spanish and Algebra.
- Junior Doctors Academy This program is part of the prestigious Doctors Academy at Sunnyside High School. Students learn about the medical professions and do many hands on activities and trips to better understand medicine and health care.
- Electives Course offerings include band, orchestra, percussion, art, choir, arts-media-entertainment, technology, leadership, Mens and Womens Alliance, drama, dance, folkloric dance, Spanish, and Spanish for Native Speakers.
- Full Athletic and Co-Curricular Program Students can participate in many different activities and compete on championship teams, while getting support from tutors and teachers. Champion athletic teams and the 2012, 2013, 2015, 2019, 2021, and 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025 FUSD Tournament of Technology Team Champions.
- Clubs and extra-curriculars We have many clubs and extra curriculars for students including Hmong Dance, K-Pop, Anime, Book Club, Gay Straight Alliance, Black Student Union, Art Club, Destination Imagination, Math O Rama, Boxing Club, E-SportsTournament of Technology, and Lego League of Robotics.
Lastly, we always welcome family participation and invite you to participate in our Parent Engagement Hour twice a month, parent teacher conferences, student performances, athletic contests and more. We know that the more are you are involved with your child’s education, the better opportunity for them to succeed. Please feel free to reach out to their academic counselors for support with their grades and learning, their teachers for classroom help and the administration for any else that is needed.
